A trip to Burgundy is not complete without a visit to the Hospices de Beaune or Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune, a former charitable hospice founded in 1443 by the Chancellor of Burgundy as a hospital for the poor. It is one of the finest examples of 15th-century French architecture, with its Gothic facades and varnished roofs, covered in flamboyantly coloured geometric figures.

Protected in an exceptional state of preservation, this monument is a rare testimony to the civil architecture of the Middle Ages. Its rooms contain a vast collection of objects, furniture and tapestries from this period.
